We’re seeking talented, driven and experienced Senior/Principal Microwave Engineers to become part of our growing hardware engineering community within our world‑class radar division. Based at our Edinburgh site, you’ll collaborate with some of the brightest minds in the industry, turning cutting‑edge ideas into real‑world solutions. You will: Create high quality and robust MMIC designs using Gallium Nitride (GaN) or Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) semiconductor technologies. Perform circuit design including High Power Amplifiers, Low Noise Amplifiers, Attenuators, Phase Shifters, Switches, Oscillators etc. Prepare robust manufacturing data packs and provide technical support to sub-contracts and engineering interface with external foundries. Ensure design reviews are planned, executed and completed successfully. Conduct RF on wafer and “chip on board” testing of your designs including debugging, and performance verification to ensure the requirements are met. Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams – mechanical, systems, test and manufacture - to ensure seamless integration of your MMIC designs into our larger systems. Mentor early career engineers and contribute to technical reviews and design standards. What you’ll bring To excel in this role, you’ll bring a strong command of RF circuit design, microwave engineering, and electromagnetic theory, paired with the problem‑solving mindset and attention to detail needed to tackle complex technical challenges. A curiosity for emerging technologies, enthusiasm for the defence and space sectors, and adaptability to new methods and tools will also help you thrive as part of our team. Qualifications: first or second degree (BSc, BEng, MEng, MSc, PhD, EngD) in Electrical & Electronic Engineering (preferable) or related science (e.g. Physics) Proven experience (3 years +) in MMIC circuit design and a strong understanding of microwave techniques and electromagnetic theory. Proficiency in using commercial software tools for RF analysis /simulation such as Keysight ADS, AWR Microwave Office & CST Microwave Studio Hands-on experience in RF & Microwave measurement techniques such as Vector Network Analysis, Spectrum Analysis etc. Awareness of requirements management, ideally using tools such as IBM Doors. This is not an exhaustive list, and we are keen to hear from you even if you might not have experience in all the above. The most important skill is a good attitude and willingness to learn. Position Overview STMicroelectronics is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Member of Technical Staff (MTS) – Implant Equipment to join our advanced manufacturing team in Singapore. This role is responsible for sustaining, improving, and optimizing ion implantation equipment and related processes to ensure stable tool performance, robust process control, high product quality, and manufacturing excellence in a high-volume semiconductor environment. The successful candidate will be a key technical contributor, partnering closely with Process Integration, Equipment, Manufacturing, Quality, and Technology Development teams to drive tool qualification, process optimization, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement. This position requires deep technical knowledge, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to deliver practical, sustainable solutions that support fab readiness and operational performance. Key Responsibilities * Own implant equipment performance, process stability, and manufacturability in a high-volume production environment. * Lead technical troubleshooting for process excursions, equipment drift, dose/energy issues, beam instability, contamination, and yield detractors. * Support process tuning, recipe optimization and equipment qualification for ion implantation processes. * Drive root cause analysis and implement robust corrective actions to improve tool availability, process capability, product quality, and yield. * Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful technology transfer, tool readiness, and process ramp-up. * Monitor and improve key equipment and process metrics using SPC, DOE, FMEA, FDC (Fault Detection Control) and statistical data analysis. * Work with equipment and maintenance teams to strengthen preventive maintenance, calibration, and tool performance standards. * Develop, review, and maintain technical documentation, including SOPs, BKMs, qualification reports, and process guidelines. * Mentor junior engineers and technicians and contribute to knowledge-sharing across the organization. * Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in ion implantation and semiconductor equipment. Technical Qualifications * Strong expertise in ion implantation tools and processes for semiconductor manufacturing. * Expert-level experience with Axcelis implant tools, including: * tool setup and operation * process tuning * beam and implant parameter optimization * machine matching & qualification * troubleshooting and process correction * Demonstrated expertise in equipment troubleshooting, process stabilization, and defect reduction. * Solid understanding of process integration, yield improvement, and defect analysis in semiconductor manufacturing. * Familiarity with metrology and analytical tools and methods relevant to implant processes, such as: * sheet resistance measurement * SIMS * four-point probe * ellipsometry or thickness monitoring where applicable * particle monitoring and contamination control * Strong capability in DOE, SPC, FMEA, FDC (Fault Detection Control), data analysis, and root cause investigation. * Experience supporting technology transfer from development to manufacturing. * Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical findings clearly to diverse stakeholders. * Familiarity with fab safety, quality systems, documentation standards, and compliance requirements. Preferred Experience * Experience in a semiconductor high-volume manufacturing or technology transfer environment. * Strong background in implant equipment ownership and process support. * Demonstrated ability to lead or contribute to cross-functional problem-solving teams. * Proven track record of improving uptime, match, repeatability, contamination control, and process capability. * Experience in driving technical contributions through innovation, patents and impactful fab improvements. * Exposure to ISO systems, operational excellence frameworks, and equipment maintenance practices. Education and Experience * Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Electronic & Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry or a closely related discipline. * Typically, 10 to 15 years of experience in implant process or equipment development, preferably within semiconductor manufacturing. * Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-functional fab environment. * Strong record of technical ownership, collaboration, and execution excellence. * AMAT Implant tools experience will be an added advantage. In this role you will play a pivotal role in our manufacturing operations team, shaping the; NPI / Repair strategies and requirements for DF x events, ensuring efficient production processes, adherence to quality standards, and timely project completion. The role on offer is supporting the Future Combat Air Line of Business, this role will help plan future manufacturing activities to deliver products to schedule, quality and cost. The successful candidate will be supporting the business through developing & executing the Operations NPI process, Repair Definition, DFx and Manufacturing & Repair requirement strategies aligning with Leonardo lines of business throughout the UK. What you will do as a Manufacturing Engineer: Providing specialist input including the application of specialist skills and knowledge into a project team to help ensure the delivery of a technically sound solutions, meeting all stakeholder requirements within an NPI environment. Lead the maturity of prototyping with a heavy focus on technical requirements generation & DFX. Define the future requirements for products and services across the life cycle of the programme. Harmonise Manufacturing Engineering activities across multiple sub-system projects (UK wide). Lead failure investigations, aware of all the project issues, able to prioritise and championing the solutions and deliverables using known problem solving techniques (e.g. 8D).
