Your Impact The Processing Core Delivery Team (PX CDT) underpins airborne radar and system development in Edinburgh by providing specialist processing expertise in the fields of Waveform Design, Digital Signal Processing, System Modelling and Design, Tracking, Navigation, Tasking and Control, Test Solutions, Autonomous Decision Making and Data Fusion. We provide engineering artefacts and support to the Electronics Division and LUK Capability across the engineering lifecycle from early concept studies through to solution implementation and integration support. Key to our success is our ability to maintain and grow specialist technical capabilities in response to future company need, drive innovation and champion its exploitation into new products or processes, champion cross product reuse and commonality and, foster a collaborative and dynamic working environment. As PX CDT Project Engineering Manager (PEM), you will set the strategy, positively influence, and manage our technical output from the teams within the PX CDT who support sensor modelling, new technology development and test software development for the Radar and Advanced Targeting (RATs) line-of-business. You will work in a highly demanding and complex team, leading the development of low- to mid-TRL technologies to be ready for productionisation, and immersed in full-scale development programmes spanning the breadth of the engineering lifecycle. Our CDT has a challenging set of customer expectations to develop flexible, high-performance systems and software solutions deployed on the primary sensors and vehicles of some of the world's most technically advanced fast jet aircraft and other military vehicles. We are looking for someone passionate about our products, with a focus on delivery and proven experience of nurturing and developing high-performing, successful teams. You will thrive in dynamic environments, with the ability to make decisions quickly under pressure and set a clear technical direction for the team. As the PX CDT Project Engineering Manager, you will: Lead and manage the PX CDT Modelling and Test Teams reporting to the PX CDT PEM and Chief Engineers. Define and implement your design, development and delivery strategy for the Modelling and Test Teams with support from the PX CDT PEM and Chief Engineers. Manage and review the Forward Load for the Modelling and Test Teams to ensure the team size and skill set within the group can satisfy current and future programme requirements. Identify emerging technologies from your group and engage with Chief Engineer group and RATs Capability to protect IPR. Lead the definition of the Radar Modelling, Adv. Technology and Test Solution roadmaps assuring throughput of technology maturation into deployable code, where applicable. Work with the PX CDT Function Leads to maintain a critical mass of SQEP to drive innovation and product delivery across our key technical domains. Work with the PX CDT PEM to evaluate any new work being proposed for the Modelling and Test Teams and ensure the team can support business winning activities. Manage the application of appropriate Life Cycle Management (LCM) processes for all work products under development within the Modelling and Test Teams. Foster and maintain effective relationships with the sector delivery IPTs across the RATs line-of-business. Deploy effective work package management (e.g. EVM etc.) techniques across our teams and monitor adherence to cost and schedule. Drive commonality and promote re-use of engineering artefacts across the CDT and the sectors within RATs. Foster an environment to support personal and professional development for our engineers. What you’ll bring Ideally, we are looking for a proactive engineer and leader, someone with: Experience in applying governance and guidance in Engineering LCM process. Experience in eliciting stakeholder expectations. An understanding of sensor and system modelling principles and best practices. Proven leadership and decision-making skills in a high complexity, dynamic environment at a senior level. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build trust and respect across engineering teams and senior leadership groups. The ability to define product physical, functional and logical architecture(s). Experience of integration, with an understanding of the resultant issues, cost and schedule implications, and potential mitigations. Your impact Leonardo has an exciting vacancy for a Principal Test Systems Engineer, based at our dedicated Test Facility in Southampton. We are looking for an experienced Test Engineer to act as point of contact for Project Teams and coordinate the work for a multi-disciplined team of Test Engineers. This role presents an excellent opportunity for an ambitious individual to develop and grow their skills and knowledge within a thriving organisation and not to mention an award-winning benefits package! As Principal Test Systems Engineer you will be responsible for the specification, design, procurement, manufacture, verification and evaluation of test equipment and procedures. Supporting projects with documentation and delivery to agreed budget and timescales. Typical test equipment will include optical, thermal and electronic components as well as test software. Although not expected to be an expert in all these areas the role will require hands on activity, therefore a wide knowledge and proven experience is desired to bring all these aspects together to provide a reliable test system. To support the design, development and through-life support of electro-optical test equipment and test processes for the company’s range of Infrared Detectors, from initial product development through to volume production. Responsibilities include; Take ownership and deliver work packages to time and budget. Tracking costs and task progress. Identify the needs to deliver the proposed test system(s) for the detector or module development. Generate work packages and estimate the cost to deliver those needs. Develop, procure, instal and commission new test capability for testing the performance of our new development product types. Prove by testing the new test systems and reporting how they meet the requirements. Authoring and presenting where necessary governance and technical documentation, for example those needed for Declaration of Design and Performance. Act as Test Lead at Integrated Product Team meetings. What you’ll bring You will have proven experience as a Test Engineer, with the following attributes; HNC/HND or higher or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline, e.g. Physics, Engineering. Ability to verify and validate electro-mechanical test systems, fault finding and problem solving. Ability to assimilate and apply technical information to design tasks. Demonstrate evidence of good organisation, planning and execution of work Attention to detail. Ability to work closely in a team with other engineering and science disciplines. Good Communication and customer liaison skills. Careful Measurement and analytical skillset. Experience of the following areas: Electrical test, Electro-optics, thermal cryogenics, mechanical assembly. Practical ‘hands on’ laboratory test, diagnostic and measurement experience, including electro-optical and optical communication instrumentation.
