ST is excited to welcome an Software Algorithm/Embedded Intern at our office located in Santa Clara, CA. Important Notes: * We are looking for an intern who can start during the Fall 2026 semester (approximately in September). * This position is NOT a remote position. The intern is required to go in-person. YOUR ROLE * Design an implementation of algorithms, data collection experiments, integration and verification on embedded platforms. * Contribute to the development of novel algorithms to recognize the pattern of activities based on sensor data for applications such as motion tracking optical systems. * Assist in development of firmware for algorithm implementation on different platforms. * Responsible for the design, development, testing and delivery of sensor software drivers and algorithms for mobile / wearable / industrial / automotive platforms. YOUR SKILLS & EXPERIENCES * Working towards a Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics or equivalent field. * Experience with implementing algorithms on embedded platforms using C, C++ programming language. * Experience with Python and tools used for Machine Learning analysis and development. The base hourly rate range for this role is between $32 and $43 USD. YOUR ROLE You will take part to the development of new technology platforms for MEMS sensor products following the different phases from feasibility to prototyping, from qualification to transfer to manufacturing and industrialization. The expected salary range for this position is € 42,000 – €50,000 gross annual salary (RAL), plus variable pay relevant for the role. In accordance with the EU Pay Transparency Directive and applicable Italian legislation, this compensation range has been determined based on objective, gender-neutral criteria, including job responsibilities, required skills, relevant experience, qualifications, and market benchmarks. Placement within the range will depend on the candidate’s profile and demonstrated competencies. The final offer will be made in compliance with the applicable National Collective Bargaining Agreement (CCNL), where relevant, and our internal compensation policies. As a senior member of the MEMS design team, the MEMS design expert leads and contributes to all phases of product development for innovative 3-axis accelerometers and 3-axis gyroscopes. Main activities of the MEMS design expert include: •Lead feasibility studies and select sensor architectures to meet specifications. •Design sensor layouts and conduct simulations to predict sensor performance across manufacturing variability and real-world application scenarios. •Develop novel simulation models to describe sensor behavior in new environmental conditions. •Plan and perform sensor validation and characterization. •Contribute to new sensor research and development in collaboration with design centers and universities. The ideal candidate has at least five years of experience as an inertial MEMS designer and holds a PhD in MEMS design or manufacturing, or at least seven years of experience as an inertial MEMS designer and holds a degree in mechanical engineering, physical engineering, or electronic engineering. The candidate demonstrates expertise in MEMS sensors, including design principles, simulation tools, and instruments used for sensor validation. Basic knowledge of MEMS technology, inertial sensor architectures, and sensor calibration and characterization is required. Proficiency with finite element method (FEM) simulations and MATLAB® is required. The candidate must demonstrate accountability, attention to detail, a problem-solving mindset, curiosity, and a drive for innovation.
