YOUR ROLE We are seeking a forward-thinking Automation Engineer to design and implement next-generation automated systems. Our focus is on "Balanced Automation"—integrating traditional hardware (PLCs, robotics) with AI-powered reasoning and real-time data pipelines to drive operational excellence. You will move beyond simple script execution to architecting resilient, scalable ecosystems that bridge the physical and digital worlds. * System Architecture: Design and deploy end-to-end automation frameworks integrating PLC, and Industrial IoT (IIoT) systems. * AI & Agentic Integration: Orchestrate AI agents to the existing tools to simplify the routine tasks. * Develop and maintain automated devices for machine/process monitoring including dashboard for KPI monitoring. * Predictive Maintenance: Implement machine learning-based monitoring systems to detect anomalies and reduce unplanned downtime. Job Description STMicroelectronics Malta is seeking a skilled and motivated IT Engineer to join our IT Automation Support Team. The position holder will support robotics and automation manufacturing lines by handling incidents and requests to restore service, implementing workarounds where necessary to ensure production equipment remains operational. The role also involves analyzing issues using structured resolution methodologies to identify root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions. In addition, the position will support manufacturing change requests related to new business requirements and contribute to improving equipment efficiency. Duties & Responsibilities The responsibilities include, but are not limited to: * Troubleshoot issues related to applications such as AMA, EICs, and EMCS within the robotics and automation environment. * Apply ST standard resolution methodologies, such as 8D, to identify root causes and implement permanent corrective and preventive actions. * Support users in addressing new business requirements. * Test new features in software releases related to automation, ensuring existing features continue to function as expected. * Test and deploy new versions of EICs (Equipment Controller) and perform characterization and buy-off activities for EICs on new equipment types when required. * Conduct training sessions for key users when required. * Develop and maintain documentation, while following and improving operating procedures to ensure robust, high-quality customer service delivered within budget and on time. Skills & Qualifications The ideal candidate shall: * Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related field. * Have knowledge of PL/SQL. * Experience in robotics and automation within a manufacturing environment will be considered an asset, particularly with AMA and MCS applications. * Be prepared to work in a diverse environment and comply with ST Health & Safety rules. * Be able to work both independently and as part of a team. * Demonstrate a willingness to continuously develop knowledge and skills to successfully carry out assigned tasks and projects. * Strong presentation skills and the ability to deliver training will also be considered an advantage. JOB DESCRIPTION The candidate will be highly skilled advanced Robotics Engineer to join our innovative team. We are seeking a skilled Robotics Engineer to design, implement, and optimize automated systems, including ARVs, robotics, and overhead transport, in a microelectronics manufacturing environment. The role ensures compliance with SEMI standards and involves collaboration with production, logistics, and maintenance teams to enhance efficiency, quality, and safety. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing advanced robotic systems into dark factory / zones. Duties & Responsibilities The responsibilities include, but are not limited to: * Reporting: Reports to the Industrial Engineering 5.0 HoD * Program Support: Support the ST Malta Sites dark lines / factory automation program, from substrate to final test. * Design and Development: * Develop and optimize advanced robotic systems, including hardware and software components. * Design and implement algorithms for motion control, perception, and decision-making. * Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate sensors, actuators, and control systems. * Support AMHS operations including maintenance of automation equipment. * Develop and implement automated systems (ARVs, robotics, overhead transport). Path routing, material handling, optimization, etc. * Ensure compliance with SEMI standards and implement safety protocols. * Testing, Validation and Release to Production: * Conduct rigorous testing and validation of robotic systems to ensure performance, reliability, and safety. * Perform SECS/GEM Characterizations for equipment. * Analyze and troubleshoot system issues, implementing solutions to improve functionality. * Execute the deployment of advanced robotics into deployment for dark room / zones. * Research and Innovation: * Stay updated on the latest advancements in advanced robotics and artificial intelligence. * Contribute to research initiatives and propose innovative solutions to enhance robotic capabilities. * Documentation and Reporting: * Prepare detailed technical documentation, including design specifications, test reports, and user manuals. * Present findings and project updates to stakeholders and team members. Skills and Qualifications The ideal candidate shall: * Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in robotics engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics engineering, computer science, or a related field. * Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, or MATLAB®. * Experience with robotic frameworks such as ROS (Robot Operating System). * Knowledge of Semiconductor manufacturing frontend / EWS / backend * Strong knowledge of kinematics, dynamics, and control systems. * Familiarity with sensors, actuators, and embedded systems. * Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. * Strong communication skills and ability to document technical processes effectively. * Skills: * Proficiency in Project Management and Vendor Management. * Strong Business Communication skills. * Technical Knowledge: * Experience in advanced robot design and development. * Knowledge of machine learning and computer vision techniques. * Familiarity with hardware design and prototyping. * Experience with simulation tools and environments for robotics is highly valued. * Understanding of digital twin technology: A comprehensive knowledge of digital twin concepts, including their architecture, components, and applications, is crucial. This includes familiarity with simulation, modeling, and real-time data integration. * Knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML): A strong foundation in AI and ML is necessary to develop intelligent and adaptive digital twin systems.
