THE ADVENTURE AHEAD 🚀 As the Senior Product Engineer II, you bring expert-level proficiency across backend and frontend development with the ability to design, build, and evolve complete features from data and service layers through to the customer experience. You own complex work end-to-end, navigate confidently across system boundaries, and reduce unnecessary dependencies by taking responsibility for the complete technical solution. Beyond your technical output, you function as the de facto technical anchor of your squad. You don't hold a management title, but you drive technical direction, mentor peers, coordinate across functions, and ensure your team ships high-quality software consistently. You're the person others turn to when systems get complex, priorities conflict, or delivery is at risk.   THE DAY-TO-DAY ⚒️ - Architect the Future: Drive complex, multi-sprint technical initiatives across frontend product experiences, backend services, and API contracts, and platform integration layers, proactively managing scope, dependencies, and technical risk. - Ship End-to-End: Design data models and service contracts, build backend and integration changes, and deliver seamless frontend experiences as a single owner across the full customer journey. - Set the Standard: Write exemplary full-stack code, establish clear integration boundaries, and make durable architectural decisions that keep systems scalable, maintainable, and easy to evolve. - Anchor the Squad: Scope timelines, break down complex work, coordinate dependencies across product and platform teams, and maintain continuous delivery momentum across multiple sprints. - Level Up the Team: Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, pairing, and technical discussions while raising the bar for automated testing, CI/CD, observability, and technical-debt management. - Partner for Impact: Collaborate closely with Product, Design, QA, SRE, and platform engineers to translate customer problems into reliable solutions and clearly communicate tradeoffs across frontend, services, and platform integrations. YOUR SUPERPOWERS⚡️ - Full-Stack Engineering Expertise: 6+ years of software engineering experience with strong expertise in building and evolving complex applications across frontend, backend services, APIs, and data layers, with the depth to make strong technical decisions across the full stack. - End-to-End Ownership: A proven track record of owning complete technical initiatives across frontend, backend, and integration layers from architectural design through production deployment. - System Design Expertise: Strong understanding of service-oriented architectures, REST APIs, event-driven systems, cloud services such as AWS, and the architectural patterns required to build scalable and maintainable applications. - Integration Fluency: Comfortable navigating existing backend systems and unfamiliar codebases and able to make safe changes without needing to be a specialist in every technology involved. - Engineering Excellence: Hands-on experience with automated testing across unit, integration, and E2E layers, alongside CI/CD, observability, monitoring, and pragmatic technical-debt management. - Technical Force Multiplier: Able to guide engineers through technical uncertainty, unblock complex problems, raise engineering standards, and mentor others through design discussions, code reviews, and pairing. - Collaborative Communicator: Strong at translating technical tradeoffs for Product, Design, QA, SRE, and engineering stakeholders, challenging assumptions constructively, and keeping teams aligned around customer outcomes.Bonus Points 🌟 - Next-Level Ambition: Active aspiration and progress toward a Staff Engineer or formal technical leadership trajectory. - Strategic Pragmatism: A track record of balancing immediate delivery needs with long-term system health while comfortably delegating technical ownership. BONUS POINTS 🌟 - Next-Level Ambition: Active aspiration and progress toward a Staff Engineer or formal technical leadership trajectory. - Strategic Pragmatism: A track record of balancing immediate delivery needs with long-term system health while comfortably delegating technical ownership. In this role, you will own and extend the high-throughput, low-latency backend systems, event-driven architectures, and distributed data pipelines powering 1P, 2P, and 3P audience data for Flipp and Shopfully. We are looking for a high-autonomy senior contributor who doesn't just write code, but owns production services end-to-end, drives system design decisions, scales core tables running into tens of billions of rows, and leverages cutting-edge AI tools to maximize engineering throughput. If you are passionate about backend engineering, low-latency architectures, data at scale, and ad-tech innovation, this role is for you!   WHAT YOU WILL DO 🏄 Own & Extend the Audience Platform: Architect, build, and scale core backend systems including the Audience API, Audience Kafka Topics, User Profile API, Audience Management UI, and 2P/3P data ingestion infrastructure.   Drive Integrations & Data Pipelines: Build and maintain high-volume activation platform integrations (e.g., DV360, Braze, TTD) and collaborate on Databricks segmentation pipelines and core data tables running into tens of billions of rows.   Ensure High Performance & Observability: Design and operate low-latency, high-throughput microservices using Go, gRPC/Protobuf, and REST+OpenAPI, maintaining end-to-end service observability and APM via Datadog and Datadog OnCall.   Support ML & AI Workstreams : Partner with Machine Learning Engineers and Data Scientists to support models (IAB Segmentation Model, Retailer/Category Affinity Segments) and integrate AI-assisted development practices (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code) into day-to-day engineering workflows.   Privacy & Compliance: Plan and execute technical initiatives with strict adherence to data regulatory laws (GDPR, CCPA, consent management).   Technical Leadership & Execution: Lead large-scale, cross-functional engineering initiatives from design to execution, contributing directly to team and company OKRs (including driving $7M+ in targeting revenue).   Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Product Managers, Engineering Managers, Data Engineers, and cross-departmental stakeholders (Ad Supply, Ad Demand, Programmatic, Marketing Science).   WHAT YOU WILL NEED 🪄 5+ years of backend/distributed systems engineering experience, ideally in Go (the team's primary language for high-throughput, low-latency services).   Production experience with Kafka-based event-driven architecture (Confluent Kafka).   Hands-on experience with Python or Scala, and strong SQL skills.   Proven track record of owning a production service end-to-end, including on-call rotation.   Comfort with distributed data pipelines at scale and experience designing/operating gRPC/Protobuf and REST+OpenAPI services.   Container orchestration & Cloud fluency: Experience with AWS and Kubernetes (EKS).   Active use of AI coding agents (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code) to increase personal development throughput.   High autonomy in ambiguity and ability to communicate technical designs clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.   Fluent in English with ability to provide overlap availability into North American hours (9am to 12pm EST).   👉 At our company, we value diversity and actively encourage it — we believe a variety of perspectives and backgrounds makes us stronger. We focus on potential rather than on having a “perfect” CV. If this role excites you and you believe you could grow into it — even if you don’t tick every single box in the requirements — we’d love to hear from you! NICE TO HAVE  🎆 Ad-tech, programmatic advertising, or activation platform experience.   Privacy engineering background (GDPR, CCPA, consent systems).   Familiarity with Databricks-specific tooling.   Experience deploying ML systems or working closely with ML pipelines. SALARY RANGE ⚖️ : €50,000 – €70,000 fixed gross salary per year.   LOCATION 🌐   While we have offices in Milan , Barcelona and Sofia , you can benefit from our flexible hybrid model, empowering you to work where you’re most effective in Europe. Full remote available from Europe.   WHAT YOU WILL FIND AT SHOPFULLY 🤗 🌎 An opportunity to thrive in a rapidly scaling multinational company 🕶️ A vibrant, informal, and inclusive work environment 🧠 We champion autonomy, flexibility, and a hybrid work model, empowering you to own your work 📚 Access to learning opportunities and regular feedback sessions 🍓 Enjoy our central, modern offices featuring fresh snacks, coffee (including vegan options!), and ergonomic setups 🎉 Engage in meaningful team events: offsites, happy hours, company parties and celebrations that unite us beyond daily tasks 💻We provide all the necessary equipment for you to work effectively and set up your workspace, wherever you are 🧰 Benefit from additional country-specific advantages based on local contracts and practices   WHO WE ARE 💜  We’re a team of 450 people (and counting!), from 30 different nationalities. We’re on a mission to innovate, and we believe the key to that is seeing the world through a variety of perspectives. That’s why building a more diverse team, as well as bringing in even more talent, is so important for us.   TO FEEL AT HOME 🛋️ IN SHOPFULLY YOU NEED 🎯 Progress Over Perfection : We move forward. Always. In a fast-moving world, speed with purpose beats certainty without action. Momentum matters—not for its own sake, but because it drives results. Clarity Through Transparency : We bring each other along. We work in teams, not silos. Transparency gives context, and context enables action. That means we share decisions early, publish work in progress, and document outcomes so others can learn, move faster, and build better. Learn Loudly : We grow by doing and by daring. Big bets unlock big breakthroughs. But real innovation demands risk, and risk always carries the possibility of failure. That’s not a flaw. It’s the price of ambition. Challenge with Empathy : We speak up, even when it’s hard—because candor shows care, and leads to better outcomes. Listening deeply is how we grow. Disagreeing openly is how we build trust. Always Build Better: We are builders—of products, systems, and ideas. But more than that, we are builders of better. Better has no finish line. It’s a mindset.
