We are seeking an outstanding technical leader to join Leonardo as Sector Chief Engineer for the Future Combat Air (FCA) Line of Business—a pivotal role at the heart of the UK’s next‑generation combat air capability. In this highly visible and strategically critical position , you will provide technical direction and leadership to an exceptionally talented team of multi-disciplined engineers spanning multiple programmes, including Team Tempest, the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) and other classified activities. Together, these programmes are shaping the future of the RAF’s next‑generation fighter aircraft. This role requires primarily on-site working at our Capability Green site in Luton due to national security considerations, with occasional UK and international travel. You must already hold, or be eligible to obtain, Developed Vetting (DV) National Security clearance. What you will do as a Sector Chief Engineer : The Sector Chief Engineer’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Provide overall technical leadership and authority across FCA engineering activities. Ensure engineering outputs meet customer requirements and comply with company engineering processes and safety, security, and airworthiness regulatory requirements. Set the technical direction through leadership of System Design Authorities (SDA), Systems Architects, and Technical Specialists. Lead, mentor, develop and recruit the SDA technical community and chair the FCA Chief Engineers Forum. Act as the senior technical reviewer and authorised signatory within FCA. Represent Leonardo in senior-level government customer and industry partner engagements. Lead complex technical investigations and resolve technical conflicts and priorities. Drive design commonality, reuse, and modularity across all engineering disciplines, ensuring that the highest levels of Engineering standards are maintained and the integrity of design solutions are assured Shape technology and product roadmaps in collaboration with Design Integrity, Capability Management and external customers. Champion continuous engineering improvement and support strategic initiatives led by the VP Engineering (FCA). Your impact We are seeking an experienced Material Controller to ensure the timely manufacture of products in accordance with the Master Production Schedule (MPS). The successful candidate will manage all materials in the manufacturing chain to meet the appropriate build standards and maintain work-in-progress status within SAP. The role includes expediting internal production items to comply with MPS and generating weekly progress reports. You will also provide accurate feedback on estimated completion dates and potential delays through your team lead and local integrated project team (IPT This will be a role based on site. Working as a Material controller you will be carrying out the following: • Review, release, and manage internal Production/Service orders aligned with MPS and customer plans. • Expedite work through production areas daily, collaborating with manufacturing teams to review capacity. • Schedule Production/Service Orders using SAP. • Use Teamcenter to ensure the latest drawings and work instructions are applied to Production/Service orders. • Coordinate vendor operations with Delivery and Logistics teams. • Implement FRB/MRB actions, attend MRB meetings, and ensure dispositioned material is handled accordingly. • Liaise with Industrial Engineering to ensure accurate rework descriptions and timings. • Manage the delivery of kits to and from all Manufacturing and Engineering areas. • Inform internal stakeholders of delays that could impact MPS achievement, suggest re-prioritisation, and resolve issues. • Attend and contribute to production reviews as a key member of the Integrated Product Team (IPT). • Collaborate closely with the Material Supply team to ensure material availability for the agreed production plan. What you’ll bring • Experience with SAP is essential. • Previous planning experience in a production environment. • Strong ability to meet deadlines and manage time effectively. • Excellent organisational skills with a demonstrated ability to prioritise tasks. • Strong analytical skills with a focus on continuous improvement. • Awareness of ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) and FOD (Foreign Object Debris) is an advantage. Your Impact The Processing Core Delivery Team (PX CDT) underpins airborne radar and system development in Edinburgh by providing specialist processing expertise in the fields of Waveform Design, Digital Signal Processing, System Modelling and Design, Tracking, Navigation, Tasking and Control, Test Solutions, Autonomous Decision Making and Data Fusion. Your Impact The Processing Core Delivery Team (PX CDT) underpins airborne radar and system development in Edinburgh by providing specialist processing expertise in the fields of Waveform Design, Digital Signal Processing, System Modelling and Design, Tracking, Navigation, Tasking and Control, Test Solutions, Autonomous Decision Making and Data Fusion. We provide engineering artefacts and support to the Electronics Division and LUK Capability across the engineering lifecycle from early concept studies through to solution implementation and integration support. Key to our success is our ability to maintain and grow specialist technical capabilities in response to future company need, drive innovation and champion its exploitation into new products or processes, champion cross product reuse and commonality and, foster a collaborative and dynamic working environment. As PX CDT Project Engineering Manager (PEM), you will set the strategy, positively influence, and manage our technical output from the teams within the PX CDT who support sensor modelling, new technology development and test software development for the Radar and Advanced Targeting (RATs) line-of-business. You will work in a highly demanding and complex team, leading the development of low- to mid-TRL technologies to be ready for productionisation, and immersed in full-scale development programmes spanning the breadth of the engineering lifecycle. Our CDT has a challenging set of customer expectations to develop flexible, high-performance systems and software solutions deployed on the primary sensors and vehicles of some of the world's most technically advanced fast jet aircraft and other military vehicles. As the PX CDT Project Engineering Manager, you will: Lead and manage the PX CDT Modelling and Test Teams reporting to the PX CDT PEM and Chief Engineers. Define and implement your design, development and delivery strategy for the Modelling and Test Teams with support from the PX CDT PEM and Chief Engineers. Manage and review the Forward Load for the Modelling and Test Teams to ensure the team size and skill set within the group can satisfy current and future programme requirements. Identify emerging technologies from your group and engage with Chief Engineer group and RATs Capability to protect IPR. Lead the definition of the Radar Modelling, Adv. Technology and Test Solution roadmaps assuring throughput of technology maturation into deployable code, where applicable. Work with the PX CDT Function Leads to maintain a critical mass of SQEP to drive innovation and product delivery across our key technical domains. Work with the PX CDT PEM to evaluate any new work being proposed for the Modelling and Test Teams and ensure the team can support business winning activities. Manage the application of appropriate Life Cycle Management (LCM) processes for all work products under development within the Modelling and Test Teams. Foster and maintain effective relationships with the sector delivery IPTs across the RATs line-of-business. Deploy effective work package management (e.g. EVM etc.) techniques across our teams and monitor adherence to cost and schedule. Drive commonality and promote re-use of engineering artefacts across the CDT and the sectors within RATs. Foster an environment to support personal and professional development for our engineers. What you’ll bring Ideally, we are looking for a proactive engineer and leader, someone with: Experience in applying governance and guidance in Engineering LCM process. Experience in eliciting stakeholder expectations. An understanding of sensor and system modelling principles and best practices. Proven leadership and decision-making skills in a high complexity, dynamic environment at a senior level. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build trust and respect across engineering teams and senior leadership groups. The ability to define product physical, functional and logical architecture(s). Experience of integration, with an understanding of the resultant issues, cost and schedule implications, and potential mitigations. Your impact We have an opportunity for a skilled Lead Electronics Engineer to join the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) team to be based in our Edinburgh. You will have responsibility for the electronics development of a key array subsystem within the Team Tempest demonstrator Multi-Function Antenna. This UK-only project is a key part of the overall GCAP programme and will be part of the flight trials programme on Leonardo's 757 trials aircraft, Excalibur. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to play a fundamental role in a defence programme of critical national importance, and to shape the future of Combat Air capability in the UK. The role is varied but focusses on the design, integration and test of the radar array subsystem and a number of inter-connected multi-layer printed circuit board assemblies. As a Lead Electronics Engineer, you will be responsible for creating high quality and robust electronics designs; for fully documenting and recording your work products; ensuring all certification processes are adhered to and documented; keeping the design under configuration management and providing plans and reports on progress. The role is broad in scope and covering a wide variety of activities, from design through test and integration to certification. With a diverse mix of skills already in the team, this role can be tailored to suit the right applicant. This will be a very ‘hands-on’ role with focus on hardware prototyping, lab measurement, debugging, integration, testing and validation of the full array sub-system. As a result, this will be a hybrid working role, with approximately 60% of your working hours working in the Edinburgh office.
