    Job Description: Join us in shaping the safety of next-generation aerospace and defence technologies Are you an experienced Safety Engineer looking to influence the design and delivery of complex, mission-critical systems? At Leonardo, you'll work on advanced aerospace, avionics and defence programmes, ensuring safety is designed into innovative technology from concept through to operational deployment. As a Principal Safety Engineer, you'll play a key role in shaping engineering decisions, reducing risk and developing the safety evidence that supports some of the UK's most advanced capabilities. Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you'll collaborate with Systems, Software and Hardware Engineers, customers and suppliers to deliver safe, reliable products that perform in some of the world's most demanding environments. Your impact As a Principal Safety Engineer, you'll use your expertise to influence the design and development of complex systems throughout the entire product lifecycle. Your responsibilities will include: Leading safety assessments from Hazard Identification through to the delivery of Safety Case Reports. Applying safety analysis techniques such as Functional Failure Analysis (FFA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and system requirements analysis. Influencing system architecture and design decisions by identifying and managing technical risk. Developing safety requirements and defining effective verification and validation approaches. Producing robust safety arguments and evidence to demonstrate compliance with customer and regulatory requirements. Conducting Environmental Impact Assessments and supporting environmental compliance activities. Presenting technical safety findings to customers, stakeholders and Integrated Project Teams. Supporting investigations relating to safety incidents, observations and lessons learned. Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to solve complex technical challenges. Contributing to the continuous improvement of Leonardo's Safety & Environmental Management System. What you'll bring We're looking for engineers who enjoy solving complex technical problems and influencing the development of high-integrity systems. Essential experience Experience delivering safety engineering activities on complex systems. Knowledge of safety analysis techniques such as Hazard Analysis, FFA, FMECA, FTA or similar methodologies. Experience developing Safety Case Reports and supporting evidence. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. The ability to work collaboratively across multiple engineering disciplines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. The confidence to engage with stakeholders at all levels. Desirable experience Experience in one or more of the following areas would be beneficial, but is not essential: Aerospace, avionics, defence or other regulated engineering environments. CAMEO Systems Modeller. IBM DOORS. Adelard ASCE. Isograph FaultTree+. Azure DevOps. Systems Engineering methodologies. Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel. This is not an exhaustive list, and we are keen to hear from you even if you might not have experience in all the above. The most important skill is a good attitude and willingness to learn.     Job Description: Working within the Company Safety and Environmental Management System you will: • Use your Safety Analysis skills across the full system lifecycle: from requirements identification through design, development, manufacture system integration, acceptance testing, delivery and when required disposal. • Be involved on all aspects of safety assessment, from Hazard Identification through to delivery of project Safety Case Reports. You will undertake assessment and analysis using various techniques including Functional Failure Analysis system requirements and Fault Tree Analysis ,to identifying and validate system requirements, influence design trade-offs and architecture to reduce safety risks. • Conduct Environmental Impact Assessments ensuring that the products are complaint with applicable legislation. • Develop Safety Requirements and identify appropriate verification and validation methods • Construct arguments, based upon evidence gathered to support safety claims. • Present the outcomes of safety analysis to Integrated Project Teams and Customers • Take part in incident or observation analysis as required • Work closely with many different engineering disciplines, customers, partners and suppliers to solve complex problems and deliver safe products • Contribute to continual improvement of the Company Safety Management System. What we’re looking for You really must have: • Experience analysing complex systems from a safety perspective, considering the system functions • Knowledge and experience of Safety Case Report development for complex systems within an Electronics or Avionics discipline • You will be self-motivated, with a desire to learn new technologies and continuously refine your craft. • Ability to work across a number of sub-system teams to develop the system solution, coping with a high degree of design complexity and significant levels of uncertainty. • Excellent problem solving, analytical and interpersonal skills. • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written. • Experience of working with a variety of internal and external stakeholders of varying seniorities. • Due to the nature of the tasks involved, you must be able to achieve full SC clearance and to satisfy further UK eyes only and ITAR conditions. It would be nice if you had: • Experience of the following tools: CAMEO Systems Modeller, Azure, DOORS, Adelard ASCE and Isograph FaultTree+, Microsoft Office (especially Word and Excel) Primary Location: GB - Luton - Cap.
