Job Description: Leonardo is an international industrial group and a global leader in Aerospace, Defence, and Security, delivering multi-domain technological capabilities across the sectors of helicopters, aircraft, aerostructures, electronics, cybersecurity, and space. Within Leonardo’s Space Division, e-GEOS —a company owned by ASI (20%) and Telespazio (80%)—is a leading international player in the Earth Observation and geospatial information sector, offering a unique portfolio of application services. Within the organizational unit Chief Technological Innovation Office at the Rome office we are looking for a resource to cover the position of INSAR Geospatial Data Platform Engineer About the role We're growing our engineering capacity around a large-scale Earth Observation data processing system, handling satellite radar data at global scale. This role is responsible for ensuring the system's architecture is scalable, efficient, and production-grade, working alongside specialized technical partners and our science team, with growing ownership over time. You'll join the SAR Algorithms team in the Algorithms and Prototypes unit, reporting to the team lead, who will also mentor you technically as you take on more architectural responsibility. There is a clear growth path toward technical leadership of the system. What you'll do Review and assess technical architecture proposals (workflow orchestration, data handling, parallelization, resource usage) against project requirements, identifying scalability, performance, or cost risks. Translate requirements between our science team and technical partners and represent engineering standards in technical discussions. Review code for quality, maintainability, test coverage, and documentation. Track technical milestones and acceptance criteria, covering both functional correctness and non-functional aspects like performance and scalability. Maintain, extend, and debug components of the processing pipeline independently, with growing architectural ownership over time. Optimize pipeline performance for large-scale, big data processing: I/O efficiency, storage formats, parallel and distributed processing. Build pipeline- and resource-level monitoring so issues surface early. Work with the science team to integrate data-quality checks into the pipeline. Contribute to and strengthen existing CI/CD practices. Help ensure the system reliably meets internal performance and reliability expectations. What we're looking for Up to 5 years of experience in software/systems engineering, ideally with exposure to big data, data-intensive, or scientific computing pipelines. Solid hands-on programming skills in Python; comfort reading and working with C. Experience with, or strong conceptual understanding of, workflow orchestration tools (e.g. Snakemake, Prefect, Airflow, or similar). Experience with HPC and cloud computing environments. Good understanding of I/O and performance bottlenecks in large-scale data processing. Strong fundamentals in software engineering practice: testing, version control, code review, documentation. A track record of taking ownership and learning quickly. Comfortable reviewing and constructively challenging technical proposals, communicating clearly with both engineers and domain scientists. Good written/oral English skills (at least B2 level) Nice to have Experience with geospatial or Earth Observation data. Familiarity with chunked/array-based scientific computing tools (e.g. Dask, Xarray, Zarr). Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure). Experience working with external technical partners or contractors. Always. In a fast-moving world, speed with purpose beats certainty without action. Momentum matters—not for its own sake, but because it drives results. Clarity Through Transparency : We bring each other along. We work in teams, not silos. Transparency gives context, and context enables action. That means we share decisions early, publish work in progress, and document outcomes so others can learn, move faster, and build better. Learn Loudly : We grow by doing and by daring. Big bets unlock big breakthroughs. But real innovation demands risk, and risk always carries the possibility of failure. That’s not a flaw. It’s the price of ambition. Challenge with Empathy : We speak up, even when it’s hard—because candor shows care, and leads to better outcomes. Listening deeply is how we grow. Disagreeing openly is how we build trust. Always Build Better: We are builders—of products, systems, and ideas. But more than that, we are builders of better. Better has no finish line. It’s a mindset. You will work hand-in-hand with our most forward-thinking, strategic customers to transform complex L&D workflows into autonomous, high-impact AI agents. By translating customer challenges into reusable platform capabilities, you will play a central role in establishing our FDE function from the ground up, defining what success looks like, and shaping the future of AI-first learning. 🛠️ THE DAY-TO-DAY - Build the Blueprint: Thrive in extreme ambiguity. You won't just follow operational rituals—you'll create them. You’ll define how our FDE team operates, set internal playbooks, and figure out the technical roadmap as you navigate uncharted territory alongside our clients. - Deploy Autonomous Intelligence: Partner directly with our strategic enterprise customers to map complex L&D workflows, pin-pointing high-impact opportunities for agentic AI integration. - Architect Custom AI Agents: Design, build, and deploy bespoke AI agents that integrate seamlessly with customer systems and the Docebo Agent Hub. - Drive Platform Evolution: Translate hands-on customer insights into foundational platform enhancements, turning bespoke client solutions into scalable features for our broader ecosystem. - Own the Product Lifecycle: Take full ownership from discovery and system architecture to production deployment, monitoring, and iterative optimization. - Build the Discipline: Shape the founding FDE team culture, operational rituals, and internal playbooks while defining our technical roadmap and cross-functional org design. 💪 YOUR SUPERPOWERS - Full-Stack Craftsmanship: 5+ years of hands-on experience building, shipping, and maintaining production-grade full-stack software products. - Product-First Mindset: A strong customer-centric focus with the confidence and communication skills to engage directly with enterprise stakeholders. - Founder Mindset & Ambiguity Tolerance: You don't wait for clear specs or structured hand-offs. You are energized by undefined problems, comfortable making high-stakes decisions with partial information, and obsessed with taking complete ownership from zero to one. - Rapid Prototyping Agility: Proven ability to quickly build prototypes, experiment boldly, and iterate based on real-world usage and customer feedback. - Modern Tech Fluency: Proficiency in our core tech stack, including frontend (React, TypeScript) and backend development (Next.js, TypeScript). - Systems Architecture: Strong architectural background with solid experience navigating distributed systems, AWS, Kubernetes, and LLM providers. ✨ BONUS POINTS - Agentic AI Expertise: Prior experience building, fine-tuning, or deploying agentic AI systems and LLM-powered applications in production environments. - Ecosystem Familiarity: Experience using modern engineering tooling like GitLab, Datadog, OpenTofu, and multi-LLM orchestration tools. 💬 OUR INTERVIEW PROCESS - Step 1: We’ll kick things off with a 30-minute video call with a member of our Talent team. We’ll get to know you, share more about the role and team, and make sure we’re aligned. - Step 2: A 60-minute video call with the hiring manager, where they’ll dig deeper into your experience, approach, and what excites you most about this opportunity. - Step 3: A hands-on technical deep dive and architecture discussion with key stakeholders. - Step 4: A final conversation focused on culture fit, team dynamics, and cross-functional alignment. OUR HYBRID WORK PHILOSOPHY 🤝 Great work can happen anywhere but coming together helps us go further. Our team spends three days a week in the office (Tuesday-Thursday) to collaborate, solve problems, and learn from each other.
