Principal Software Engineer – Test Environments (GCAP) Your Impact Can you develop Test Environments for a complex aerospace programme, from strategy through to implementation? Would you like a once-in-a-generation opportunity to play a key role in a defence programme of national and international importance? Working within the Future Combat Air Line of Business, you will help deliver robust test capabilities for the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP), including test rigs, integrated test solutions, simulation environments, bespoke software, and test frameworks. GCAP will deliver Tempest, the sixth-generation combat aircraft that will replace the Royal Air Force's Typhoon fleet from 2035. Leonardo UK is leading the development of advanced Integrated Sensing and Non-Kinetic Effects (ISANKE) and Integrated Communications System (ICS) technologies, including sensing, communications, data fusion, machine learning, and defensive aids systems. Working closely with the Ministry of Defence and international industry partners, you will play a key role in the development, integration, verification, and validation of these advanced capabilities. This role can be based at any Leonardo Electronics UK site and will involve occasional travel What You’ll Do Develop software and test solutions that support physical and digital test capabilities. Deliver test environments across multiple levels, from subsystem integration through to hardware-in-the-loop and simulation environments. Collaborate with stakeholders to define Test Environment requirements and support programme objectives. Contribute to the GCAP ISANKE and ICS Test Environments roadmap. Support the delivery of innovative test and compliance solutions across the programme. Work with Engineering, Procurement, IT, and Manufacturing teams to enable both synthetic and airborne trials. Deliver solutions to agreed cost, schedule, and quality targets, while supporting proof-of-concept and demonstration activities. within the UK and internationally, particularly to Italy and Japan. What You'll Bring You will have a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline, together with experience delivering software solutions within a complex engineering environment. We are looking for candidates with experience in: Software development across the full engineering lifecycle using Agile methodologies. Developing test environments, test frameworks, or test automation solutions. Simulation, modelling, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), or systems integration activities. Working with systems engineers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions. Requirements capture, verification, validation, and acceptance activities. Digital engineering approaches and hybrid physical/synthetic test environments. Software architectures, interfaces, and data integration within complex systems.     Job Description: We are looking for a Technical Lead to join a cutting-edge space project focused on Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) . In this role, you will act as the technical authority on behalf of TPZ, ensuring end-to-end system coherence across space, ground, and user segments , while leading requirements engineering, system design, and validation activities under the ECSS framework. You will play a key role in shaping the technical backbone of a highly innovative mission, contributing directly to secure communications of the future. Key Responsibilities Systems Engineering Lead and oversee system engineering activities, including high-level design of the complete LEO QKD system. Ensure technical and functional consistency across space segment (platform and quantum payload), ground segment (GCS, OGS, KMS), and user segment. Define and maintain the end-to-end system architecture and product tree. Requirements Engineering Lead the identification, analysis, and consolidation of mission and subsystem requirements (Ground Control Segment). Coordinate the definition of preliminary cybersecurity requirements across all segments. Support the definition of Mission Simulator requirements. YOUR ROLE We are seeking a highly skilled Field Application Engineer (FAE) with 2-4 years strong expertise in data center power conversion systems. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership and customer support for power electronics solutions used in data center infrastructure, including VR for CPU/GPU and high-efficiency DC-DC converters, power supplies, and power management ICs. A deep understanding of power semiconductor devices, advanced topologies, and system-level design for high-density, high-reliability data center applications is essential. Key Responsibilities * Validation of VRs ((Multi-phase DC-DC converters) for CPU/GPU on latest platforms from Intel, AMD and other vendors. * Development, testing, and validation of DC-DC converters, power supplies, and power management systems tailored for data center environments. * Assist customers in the development, testing and validation of power systems for data center applications. * Troubleshoot complex application issues related to power conversion systems, including thermal management and reliability challenges. * Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to promote ST’s power semiconductor products and system solutions targeted at data center applications. * Capture market trends, customer feedback, and emerging technology requirements to guide product development and roadmap planning. * Develop and deliver technical training, application notes, demo boards, and presentations focused on data center power electronics. * Work closely with R&D and product engineering teams to improve product robustness, performance, and manufacturability. * Support PCB layout reviews and provide design recommendations for multilayer boards used in high-current, high-density, high switching frequency power electronics. * Participate in customer design reviews, prototype bring-up, and qualification activities. * Manage relationships with key customers and power electronics suppliers to ensure successful project execution. * Frequent travel (30 to 40%) to customer sites and industry events as needed to provide on-site support and technical training. Skills * EE degree required. Masters preferred. * Experience with validation of VRs on Intel and AMD platforms. Experience with INTEL VRTTool Gen5 and AMD SDLE3. * Experience with data center power standards and architectures (e.g. 800V power distribution, 48 V power distribution, Open Compute Project specifications). * Design of high frequency DC/DC converters. * PCB design with electronic CADs such as Altium. * Familiarity with reliability testing and qualification processes for power electronics. * Experience working in semiconductor or power electronics industries supporting OEMs or system integrators. * Hands-on experience with electrical test equipment (oscilloscopes, power analyzers, spectrum analyzers). * Ability to analyze test data and communicate technical results effectively. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills. The base annual salary range for this role is between $ 91,500 to $ 114,400 USD. As a senior member of the MEMS design team, the MEMS design expert leads and contributes to all phases of product development for innovative 3-axis accelerometers and 3-axis gyroscopes. Main activities of the MEMS design expert include: •Lead feasibility studies and select sensor architectures to meet specifications. •Design sensor layouts and conduct simulations to predict sensor performance across manufacturing variability and real-world application scenarios. •Develop novel simulation models to describe sensor behavior in new environmental conditions. •Plan and perform sensor validation and characterization. •Contribute to new sensor research and development in collaboration with design centers and universities. The ideal candidate has at least five years of experience as an inertial MEMS designer and holds a PhD in MEMS design or manufacturing, or at least seven years of experience as an inertial MEMS designer and holds a degree in mechanical engineering, physical engineering, or electronic engineering. The candidate demonstrates expertise in MEMS sensors, including design principles, simulation tools, and instruments used for sensor validation. Basic knowledge of MEMS technology, inertial sensor architectures, and sensor calibration and characterization is required. Proficiency with finite element method (FEM) simulations and MATLAB® is required. The candidate must demonstrate accountability, attention to detail, a problem-solving mindset, curiosity, and a drive for innovation.
