We have a fantastic opportunity for an Antenna / RF Test Engineer to join our Bristol Site Antennas team. You will be joining a welcoming and inclusive team of engineers, as part of the Antenna Core Delivery Team (CDT) working on a range of projects supporting the development and delivery of military communications equipment for a broad spectrum of applications and environments. As a Test Engineer your role will be to help support the production testing and development of antenna-based solutions for Leonardo, ranging from development of jigs and fixtures to test script and plan generation in preparation for hands-on product testing and data analysis. What you will do: Working with project teams to agree test plans and strategies. Planning and scheduling testing activities to ensure project requirements are satisfied. Setting up test equipment (e.g. power supplies, spectrum analysers, oscilloscopes, network analysers) and following test plans to take measurements with this equipment. Support to general lab management tasks, including creating and maintaining the lab risk assessments and checking ESD equipment. Undertake testing within and supporting use of the on-site screened room and near field chambers. Supporting test equipment calibration and record keeping. Development of test jigs and fixtures for products under test. Data analysis of test results and report writing. Generation of test plans and test scripts. What you will bring: Required: Experience of working in screened rooms / near field chambers (preferably AESA testing experience). An understanding of general electronics and RF based test equipment and how to use them to take measurements. Test plan and report writing experience. Test script generation in C derivatives, Python and Visual Basic. Test data processing & analysis. An understanding of measurement error budgets and techniques to quantify and reduce error margins An understanding of electronics design, antenna basics and safe ways of working with ESD. A collaborator with proven communication skills across engineering functions (RF, Microwave, Electronics and Mechanical). Desirable: Experience of developing tools to automate measurements (e.g. LabView or other scripted methods). Experience of designing prototype electronic circuit boards and test cables. Experience of fault-finding test setups and simple circuit boards. Experience with 3D CAD modelling and 3D printing. MATLAB experience. AESA testing experience. EMC testing experience. An understanding of working with classified data/material. Willingness to travel within the UK or internationally as required. YOUR ROLE You join the STM32 characterization laboratory to support instrument management, automation development, deployment of automotive‑grade quality standards in daily activities. and continue engineering studies as apprentice for 4 years Laboratory Instrument Calibration & Management * Contribute to planning, scheduling, and tracking calibration for lab instruments (oscilloscopes, power supplies, DMMs, generators, analyzers, etc.). * Maintain and update the instrument database (status, location, calibration dates, calibration certificates, owners). * Perform basic post‑calibration checks and help keep the lab organized, labelled, and compliant with internal rules and safety requirements. * Ensure that calibration and equipment management activities are performed in line with automotive quality standards (e.g. traceability, documentation, periodic verification, change control). * Contribute to the continuous improvement of lab processes to meet automotive customer and quality audits expectations. Automation for STM32 Characterization * Develop or maintain automation scripts and applications to control lab instruments and STM32 boards (test sequencing, configuration, data capture). * Help set up automated measurement benches and data logging flows for STM32 characterization, including automotive‑grade products. * Document tools, scripts, and procedures (user guides, change logs, test descriptions) with the level of detail required for automotive projects and audits. * Propose improvements to processes and tools to enhance efficiency, traceability, and compliance with internal and automotive quality systems. YOUR SKILLS & EXPERIENCES * License degree in Electronics completed (or equivalent). * Basic knowledge of embedded C and STM32 MCUs or other microcontrollers. * Basic understanding of electronic measurements and lab instruments (oscilloscope, power supply, multimeter, etc.). * Programming skills in at least one language: Python (preferred), LabVIEW, C/C++ or similar. * Interest in automation, scripting, and test environments, ideally in a high‑quality / automotive context. * Methodical, organized, and attentive to detail, quality, and traceability (measurements, configurations, calibration and test data). * English: good written and spoken level for technical documentation and communication. Overseeing the operation and organising the maintenance of the on-site screened room and near field chambers. Managing the test equipment calibration and records. Keeping records of the local engineering assets under test. Responsible for performing lab inductions. Integrate basic continuous improvement concepts and techniques for both process and equipment. What you’ll bring Required: Experience of managing a lab used for developing and testing electronics products.
