Your Impact Leonardo has an exciting opportunity for Project Engineering Leads based at our Southampton Site on the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP). We are looking for a Project Engineering Lead (PEL) to join the engineering team on a permanent basis to lead parts of the Airborne Communication system on this project. This role will lead and manage a multi-disciplinary engineering team to deliver the project. Project Engineering Leads are responsible for the total engineering activity undertaken on a project or portfolio of projects and so manage cross-disciplined engineering teams. The Project Engineering Lead is tasked to ensure that the engineering team delivers a solution that is compliant with the customer technical requirements; contractual requirements; and legislative requirements. Working closely with Project Managers and Project Engineering Manager and Chief Engineer, the Project Engineering Lead must effectively plan and manage the engineering effort within projects from a performance, schedule and cost perspective. Reporting to a Project Engineering Manager, the Project Engineering Lead contributes to the monthly engineering governance cycle through preparation of engineering status reports. Project Engineering Leads build strong relationships with Engineering Functional Leads to ensure the resourcing plans for their projects are realistic and any issues arising are resolved swiftly. Project Engineering Leads also play a key role in business winning activities, coordinating the collection of engineering costs, preparation of engineering plans and holding engineering bid reviews. The role requires a candidate who is self-motivated, proactive and enthusiastic, with strong leadership and communication skills. The ability to foster and develop effective working relationships is key to ensure engineers perform to the levels required of the projects. A strong product design, commercial and business awareness is also essential to ensure that the engineering effort can be managed in the correct context for each given project. What you'll do; Project Engineering Leads are responsible for the management of a multi-disciplined engineering team across multiple projects. Working closely with project managers and project engineering managers, they are responsible for delivery of the overall engineering output against time, cost and performance budgets. Project Engineering Leads are responsible for generating clear and relevant engineering plans, establishing key milestones and identifying risks, opportunities and interdependencies. Project Engineering Leads are responsible for reviewing the current engineering positions on projects, and adapting plans as required to mitigate risks to either cost, schedule or performance budgets. Project Engineering Leads are responsible for preparation and communication of monthly engineering status reports for each of their assigned projects into their line manager, the Head of Engineering Projects Project Engineering Leads are responsible for the coordination of engineering input into bids as part of the business winning process. Project Engineering Leads form part of the multi-functional management team for their IPT and may be required to represent engineering on that team at weekly and monthly progress and reporting meetings. Your Impact Reporting directly to the Head of Engineering Projects, Typhoon Radar, and collaborating closely with Design Authorities, a Project Engineering Manager is required to lead & coordinate the engineering support to production for the Typhoon Captor Radar contracts and to aid with the ongoing maturity development of the radar system capability. Leading, and continuing to grow and develop the existing team, you will have full responsibility for all aspects of engineering support to production of the Captor-E radar. We expect you to work from our Luton office two to three times per week on average, but this can vary depending on business needs and your schedule. What you’ll do as a Senior Bid Manager: Leadership of bids through to successful conclusion, ranging from tactical follow-on business through to multi-million-pound strategic initiatives Coordinate and manage bids with a range of complexities throughout the capture and bid phases of the lifecycle Work in collaboration with customers and internal stakeholders, applying best practice, to formulate bid strategies, and drive bid teams to find winning solutions Schedule and drive bid activities including Win Strategy, Bid Kick-off, Answer Planning, Bid Progress Reviews, Proposal production, Proposal content collation, Proposal reviews (e.g. colour reviews) and Tender Approvals Plan, lead, and challenge cost build-up and pricing activities from business functions Lead bid teams to identify and analyse risks and opportunities, developing mitigation/realisation plans for action post-contract award Forecast functional resource and budget requirements on bids you lead, proactively managing approved bid budgets Support the capture team during the contract negotiation phase, managing and implementing changes required to our bid submission to secure contract award Manage and contribute to the writing of proposal material, drawing on the skills and experience of capture team members and subject matter experts What you’ll bring: Experience managing complex bids and proposals Proven track record in winning business (preferably experience of leading bids with values of £20m+), with strong commercial, project, and risk management skills Experience managing multi-functional teams (preferably in a Bid Management or Business Winning discipline) Excellent planning, organisation, and time management skills (to achieve bid milestones) Degree-level qualification or equivalent, with demonstrable bid management knowledge (APMP Foundation Certification or above is desirable) Ability to lead and collaborate with cross-functional teams that may be geographically dispersed Ability to assess complex requirements and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels Leadership experience, including coaching, mentoring, team management, and team building skills Interpersonal skills to develop close business relationships with internal and external stakeholders, senior management, and government/military customers The ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the wider business and with external consortia Have a working understanding of best practice bid processes and tools (e.g. for bid planning, Black Hat, Red Team, Price to Win, etc.) This is not an exhaustive list, and we are keen to hear from you even if you might not have experience in all the above. Champion end-to-end digital thread capability.
