Your impact An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lead Power Engineer to join the Power Supply Unit (PSU) Core Delivery Team (CDT) in Edinburgh. The Team provides expert advice, guidance, design and governance throughout the full life-cycle of all projects on site for matters pertaining to Power. As an experienced PSU design engineer, your primary role is to lay the groundwork for the future power systems we require in the near and far term. The role requires the ability for general oversight of several projects, acting as a technical and managerial buffer between the Engineering, Project and PSU CDT Management Teams. You will: Report directly to the CDT Chief Engineer, covering the wide scope of PSU and system topologies, power system analysis, power system design and partitioning of requirements into Line Replaceable Items (LRIs), Shop-Replaceable Items (SRIs) and Sub Shop-Replaceable Items (SSRIs). A clear and methodical work ethic is necessary when ‘fire fighting’ tasks emerge. Your role will cover : Providing technical and managerial support to the Engineering, Project and PSU CDT management teams Supporting the Power CDT for full range of power system tests including prototyping, design verification and production support. Review of System Requirements and partitioning into Power System Requirements. Sub-partitioning into SRI Requirements Creation and review of documentation such as outsource procurement specifications, statement of work, circuit & system simulations and associated white papers, test reports, test plans Working closely with other CDTs and the Design for EMC Team to create earth & grounding diagrams, EMC plans and design stage review material. Provide design and domain knowledge support to Projects, CDTs, Suppliers, Workshare Partners and Customers. Provide support to other members of the CDT, including schematic capture, component selection and de-rating and simulation of power supply circuitry. This role combines technical leadership with strategic influence, offering significant autonomy and responsibility for critical software components or entire projects. What You’ll Bring Several years of embedded software engineering experience in aerospace, defence, or other mission/safety-critical domains. Ability to set technical direction , defining software architecture and design strategies aligned with platform and system goals. Experience ensuring compliance with DO-178C standards or equivalent , and adherence to internal governance processes. Strong skills in technical risk identification and mitigation across software components. Hands-on delivery of DO-178C software or equivalent, with lifecycle experience from requirements through to certification. A background in technical leadership , including architectural design, risk mitigation, or technical governance. Demonstrated ability to mentor and coach engineers , uplifting capability and promoting software engineering excellence. Familiarity with legacy systems, export controls , interoperability, and long-term product evolution. Ability to collaborate across disciplines , working closely with systems, hardware, and firmware teams to ensure coherent integration. Commitment to championing design integrity, acting as the accountable technical lead during audits and reviews.
